(rather long guide to) OSLO

WARNING: this blogpost is really long, so make sure to grab a cup of tea with a biscuit

OSLO

Let’s start with Oslo. For someone (that someone being me) who dreamt about visiting Norwegian’s capital for years it’s been literally dream come true. If you ever come to visit, which I would highly recommend if you are already heading up to Scandinavia, be ready for higher prices, becasue Oslo is the most expensive city to visit as a tourist according to this Telegraph's article.

How to get ready for Oslo?

• download or get USE-IT map, which is awesome series of maps of European’s cities for young travellers. It is for free and you can find some cool (not so every age category) tips. 

• if you are planning to visit any of those museums than I would recommend you to get an Oslo pass, which also works as a ticket for public transport. 2 in 1 cool right? Or actually even more, because there are also some discounts in other places than just museums. Head over to their website to find out more.

• flying to and from the Gardemoen Lufthavn? You can either buy ticket for the special airport express (takes around 15 minutes to get to the main train station from the airport, cost 90 NOK each ride) or you can save some crowns and use the normal train, which takes around 20 minutes. Or there is a bus, but I hate buses, so…

• because of the Oslo's expensiveness, I would highly recommend you to rent an airbnb or hostel, where you can get some pretty cool prices easily comparable with other European capitals. 

• don’t ever use taxis. It’s even more expensive than you even think. Luckily, I never had to take a taxi, but I'm just passing a practical info to others, because sharing is caring. 

• if you are planning to buy yourself a beer in a supermarket (the cheapest place to buy alcohol, of course), be aware of their restrictions. On weekdays you can get alcohol until 8pm, Saturday only until 6pm and Sunday is a big no-no for alcohol. And as I heard the shop assistants are very strict.

Places worth seeing:

• Oslo Opera ( I LOVE this building!!!)

• Barcode business area - every building has a different style, but somehow they go perfectly together

• Sørenga neighbourhood - modern buildings right next to the fjord, also with an outside swimming pool in the fjord

• Aker Brygge - in the afternoon when those who can afford it are having fancy - dinners and the seaside is filled with people

• Holmenkollen - I would recommend this only to those, who are the same freak as me when it comes to skiing

• Tjuvholmen - neighborouhood, something similar as Sørenga, but its connected with Aker Brygge

• The city center as itself - no need to mention that, the famous Karl Johans Gate street can take you all the way from the main train station (Østbanehalen) to the City hall (which holds Nobel price every year)

• The Royal palace - not so majestic as the Buckingham palace, but it still has guards and a very nice street leading up to the palace

• Akerselva - the river you can sport along to, its really nice place to walk along to start/end the day

• Grunnerløkka - neighbourhood famous for being hype place for young people (or to be honest - hipsters #noshame)

• Botanical garden - which is for free and it is part of a another park, there are some nice, this place has been actual the biggest surprise for me, because I didn’t know about it at all

My last and probably the most important tip from me is going to be "just walk". Walk around and walk a lot. Oslo is a lot about architecture. About the contrast between new and old and the best way to see it is to just walk and look up.

Other things to be ready for in Oslo:

• 7eleven everywhere … e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e, you never heard of 7eleven? In this place you can buy newspapers, coffee, snickers or the public transport ticket. Practically anything. 

• in the city centre you see a lot of junk people, but no need to worry they won’t bother you any longer, when you say “no” to them at the first place

• people are sporty, like super super sporty. You see people running, cycling or walking. I have to admit that you see this even more than in Denmark. Is there some sort of equation that the more north you are the more active people get?

• even though that the people ride their (not shitty at all) bikes a lot, you don’t get to see a lot of cycle paths, so I guess you have to be fearless, when you are commuting on this vehicle

• after living in Denmark for almost a year I was kind of expecting the same things, when it comes to fashion, but heeell no. People don’t wear #allblack (no as much as they do in Denmark). You can see people walking in the city centre in a sporty outfit, which I kinda like and get it. 

• one more thing to compare when it comes to Denmark and Norway.  People don’t give a sh*t about red light on the pedestrian crossing. So come on Danes, man up and be rebels. :D

• you find parks or little bit of “green” every few blocks and when the sun is out people spend the long summer night chilling and eating fresh food from the grill

OSLO!

Hlavní město Norska je město, kam plánuju výlet už 3 roky. Ve středu skočim do vlaku směr Frederikshavn, kde se nalodím na trajekt směr Oslo. Ale Oslem to nekončí! V pátek naberu mámu na letšti a jedeme směr Lillehammer (zimní olympiáda '94), kde si jedna z nás uběhne horskej půlmaraton. Hádejte která. :D
Začínám mít už takovou tu klasickou cestovatelskou horečku. Nevim, co si mám zabalit a už ted' vím, že na stopro na něco zapomenu. Klasika. V mým případě je to většinou kartáček na zuby a co vy?

P.S.: přijímám jakékoliv tipy, co v Oslu dělat a vidět :)

OSLO!

Capital of Norway is place, where I'm planning to go for three or maybe even more years. On Wednesday I'll hop on train to Frederikshavn, than board to ferry and voilá, here we are (I mean will be). But it doesn't end with/in Oslo. On Friday, I'll pick up my mom on airport we will continue to Lillehammer (winter Olympics '94). One of us is running half marathon on Saturday. Okay, I'll be honest...it's not me. :D
I'm starting to have travel fever as usual. I don't know what to pack, but I will forget something for sure. In my case it's usually a toothbrush and what about you?

P.S.: any tips where to go and what to see in Oslo are more than welcomed :)

week 41

Minulý týden utekl jako voda. Rozhodla jsem se, že sem sepíšu všechny události a zajímavosti minulého týdne, protože to všechny určitě zajímá.
Pondělí - pohodička, jenom trénink a flákání se ve městě s mejma dánskejma kamarádkama z plavání
Úterý - škola a dokončování všech assignemntů, abych je mohla vytisknout.
Středa - brzké ráno ve škole, aby nebylo v "print roomu" narváno a já si v klidu všechno vytiskla na                 pondělní evaluaci.
Čtvrtek zase pohodička - jen na bazén a zpět.
Pátek - výlet (!!!) konečně. A o tom se rozepíšu víc. Navrhla jsem pár spolužákům, že bychom se mohli vydat objevovat Dánsko. Takže v pátek ráno jsme seděly s Emily, Kristy (dvojčata z Venezuely) Aislinn, Sarah (sestry z USA) ve vlaku (moje dánské vlakové poprvé) směr Aarhus. Plán "co, kde, kam" nebyl, tak jsme se jen tak toulaly a zatoulaly jsme se (trošku úmyslně) až do ARoS aneb "Aarhus musem of modern art". Aislinn řekla, že zkusíme říct, že nám je 17, abychom dostaly lístek zadarmo (studentský lístek stál 110dkk). Já něvěřící a zároveň "potentočkovaná" strachy, že zrovna mě někdo uvěří, že mi je 17, tak nějakým zázrakem jsme byly všechny uvnitř aniž bychom vyndaly peněženku. Fun fact? Já byla z naší skupinky nejmladší. :D

Sobota - výlet do Ikea. Máme to tam se Simčou moc rády.
Neděle - uklízení, vaření atd...

The last week past by so quickly. I decided to sit down and write everything down, because everybody is interested into what I do, right?!
Monday - easy, just training and chilling with my swimming friends afterwards in town.
Tuesday - school and finishing all my assignments for upcoming evaluation.
Wednesday - early morning in school to make sure no one will be in the "printing room", so I can print all my assignments
Thursday - easy life again, just training and back home
Friday - trip (!!!) finally. And here I'm gonna stop and write more. I suggested to my classmates that we should go and explore Denmark. So on Friday morning Kristy, Emily (twins from Venezuela), Aislinn, Sarah (sisters from U.S.) and me were sitting in a train heading to Aarhus. We had no plan so we just walk and we ended up (little bit on purpose) in ARoS aka " Aarhus museum of modern art". Aislinn told us that we have to try to say that we are 17, so we could get free entry (student ticket is 110dkk). I was so scared and I didn't believe that we could make it through. Well.....we did! It was unbelievable. Fun fact? I was the youngest person in out group and also the most scared one. :D

Saturday - little trip to Ikea, because we like that place a lot with Simona.
Sunday - cleaning, cooking...chilled day.

guess what ?!

Hádejte co?! Sedím na podlaze mého (tím myslím našeho) nového bytu po první noci s čajem a kapesníkem vedle mě, protože na mě přišlo první nachlazení tohoto podzimu (a doufám, že poslední, protože já nikdy nejsem nemocná!). Nikdo si neumí představit, jak se nám ulevilo, když jsme „dostaly“ tenhle byt. Tím „dostaly“ nemyslím, že jsme ho dostaly jako dárek (i když to by bylo moc fajn k 20tinám haha), ale tady v Aalborgu funguje jakási stránka přes byty, kam se člověk zapíše a čeká na čekacích listinách u jednotlivých bytů než nějaký „dostane“, ale není to žádná procházka růžovou zahradou, protože my jsme čekaly od loňského října. Náš  byt je ve východní části města (to zní divně, že jo?), hnedka u lesa (stejně jako to mám doma v Praze!) a do školy a centra města je to tak 15-20minut na kole. No já bych řekla, že ideální, co vy? J Teď Už jen musím počkat na Simču než se vrátí z výletu do Prahy a vyrazíme do Ikea na obří nákup. Snad to přežijeme nebo spíš ať to hlavně přežijou naše peněženky.

Fotky jsou ze včerejší návštěvy Zoo, kam jsme vyrazili se spolužákama. Díky škole jsme měli vstup zadarmo, tak to by bylo abychom tam nešli. Studentskej život tak jak má bejt!

Guess what?! I am sitting on the floor of my (I mean ours) new apartment after first night and with a cup of tea and tissues, because I’m sick for the first time (and hopefully last time, because I’m never sick!) this autumn. Nobody cannot imagine, how big relief is this (unless you’ve been in this situation too). We got this apartment on this site called AKU, which is working in Aalborg and it is about that you sign up there and then you are on waiting lists in each and every apartment until one gets free and you can move in. We got this after almost a year of waiting, so yeaaah...Our apartment is situated in East side of the city (that sounds weird right?), right next to the park (exactly like I have it in Prague!) and it takes about 15-20 minutes to get to school and city centre. Only thing now is that I have to wait for Simona to come back from her trip to Prague and then we can (finally) go to Ikea and do a huuuuge shopping. That’s quite exciting, isn’t it?! Let’s just hope we!ll survive and our wallets will too.

These pictures down below are from yesterday’s visit of a Zoo, which we visited with my classmates. Thanks to Uni we got free tickets, so we just had to go. Student life as it should be!

Cádiz & Jerez de la Frontera

Dnešní report z výletu už píšu z pohodlí domova v Praze. Když procházím fotkama, tak si hezky zavzpomínám nad tím, jak jsme si dali churros a bylo nám blbě nebo jak jsme měly s Aničkou skoro identický svačiny a nebo jak jsme v Jerezu šly na představení flamenca, ale nakonec z toho byl spíše "jenom" koncert Angela Torrése (pravděpodobně místní hvězda) a jak jsme stály v růžku v jerezkém baru a bály se Tondy opilce (místní občan značně podnapilý, který byl Aničkou pojmenován "Tonda"). Jinak zajímavosti o těchto městech: Cádiz je nejstarší evropské město a rozkládá se na poloostrově (doporučuju vygooglit a podívat se), také se odsud plavil Kolumbus na druhou plavbu do Ameriky a na závěr je tu Jerez, který je hlavním městem flamenca (druh tance a hudby).

I am writing this short report already from my home in Prague. When I am browsing through the pictures it makes me remember about how we ate churros with chocolate and how bad we felt afterwards and how we had almost identical snacks with Anna or how we went to see a flamenco show, but it was "just" a concert of Angel Torrés (probably local star of Jerez) and how we stood in a corner and were afraid of Tonda the drunk gay (local fellow who was obviously very drunk and Anna named him Tonda). But anyway there are some interesting facts (!) such as: Cádiz is considered as the oldest European town and Christopher Columbus sailed from here to his second exploring cruise to America. Also this city is on peninsula and I really recommend you to google it! At the end one fact about Jerez, which is the capital of flamenco (style of dance and music).
