The journey is the destination. #bye2017

I do keep a daily journal for my deepest thoughts or just to spill my guts somewhere, but this blog has served me very similarly and I just want to put all the thoughts out in the world of wide web. So here ya go!

So it’s the beginning of the new year, which means we gotta reflect on the past year. What was good and what was bad, you know the highlights of 2017. As an optimist, I can tell you that this year has been absolutely amazing. I settled back in Prague after living/studying abroad, made some amazing new friends, started a job (which I don't take as a job sometimes, but something I enjoy very much) etc… We are going to look at some of the highlights more closely.

I discovered myself again and again.

In the beginning of 2017 I started with 2 different internships, I learned about myself SO MUCH in this office environment. Communication, adulting, facing daily problems, doing mistakes and learning new things every day. When I ended my internships to focus on my final exam of AP studies (I studied in Denmark for 2 years), I took all these experiences and you know I thought “okay that's it I'm proper adult now”, but I now looking back at it I have to admit that the past two years has been a game/life changer. I live in Prague again (and I don't every want to leave again), but it has opened my eyes and doors to so many new things. I'm learning about myself every day and this journey will continue through my life, but gooosh I'm one happy millennial. I realised that I cannot be someone else, I have to be me. I have to be this sporty, but also hipstery girl from Prague, who lives for a swimming and good runs in the woods, but also appreciates good cappuccino and instafriendly food. I cannot live life of someone else, I have to live my life. NOW. On October 7th, I turned 22 and in my Instagram caption I mentioned, that in the past year I fell in love with life, which is the best thing happened to me. The day I'm writing this, it's the 29th of December and I couldn't agree more with my 7th of October self more. I love life so much and I honestly cannot wait for 2018. What the next year is going to be about, but one thing is for sure, it's going to be amazing!
I finally get what they mean by "the journey is the destination". I totally get that by now!

I realized that I don't need to travel.

Thanks to the past 2 years of the abroad life, I got to travel quite a bit and I always thought “I love travelling so much”. Basic, I know. I do like to travel, but my home base and my bed and my room and my desk is the place, where I feel the best. It took me some time to realise, but it is true and finally now I'm not afraid to say it. I do like to be at home. I love Prague as my home place and I don't need to travel to feel good enough or cool anymore. Realising this is the cool thing. When I look back on why I chose to study uni abroad and travelled a lot, is because I wasn't sure of myself who I am, but the vision now is getting clearer and clearer. Thank god for that!
In the beginning of the year, I always got an anxiety that I'm leaving Prague for certain amount of Prague. This anxiety has got me once so badly that I just stayed home and on purpose missed my flight to sunny Spain. I think that this anxiety has been caused by the fact that I lived abroad, so after coming back to Prague, it was always extremely tough for me to go away.
When I had out of Prague now, it's usually because I want to be in the nature, get the fresh air, do some other activities and relax from the daily responsibilities. I am so getting old (and I am only 22).

I want to do sports...a lot.

Swimming. My good old love. I've been swimming competitively for 12 years. But in 2016 I wasn't really motivated to race or to train. I just kept swimming, because that was something I always did, so I kept doing it for the sake of it. It did keep me alive in Denmark, I won't lie to you, but the drive to race wasn't really there. The year of 2017 has re-defined my outlook on racing, in the water or out. To my usual swim meets and long distance ski races, I added a couple of runs and triathlons. Who would have thought that it would give me such a drive to work on myself so much. I absolutely fell in love with running and cycling and all together I know that I want to race in the 2018 a lot. I already made a race plan for the first half of the year, so I know which weekends I do what and this is what keeps me going. I love it!

I graduated from Danish university.

This has been a big one, but I still don't really realise it. I've got my first degree under my belt! It has opened me a lot of opportunities and many ways, what I could do for living in the future. For now I stick to creating any kind of content, because I'm very millennial and I to call myself content creator.

I made some amazing friends.

I reconnected with some of my favourite people, made real friends from the internet, faced some unpleasant conversations, but all in all, I have some incredible people around me! Thank you!

NO ALCOHOL ?

WHY HAVE I DECIDED TO NOT CONSUME ALCOHOL?

Well, there are couple of reasons, which started this whole thing, but also I want to stress out that I don't have problem with alcohol and I never had, this decision came to me slowly.

Two of my close friends have individually came to me and said "I'm quitting drinking/I can't drink alcohol anymore". They both had very good reasons to do so and still have them and as a good friend my conscious worked its way in my head and I stopped drinking alcohol too. It went smooth, in restaurants I ordered water or lemonade instead of beer, I don't really go clubbing or hit bars every weekend, so it was all very smooth and easy for me even without me realising. And then on one autumn day I realised that I haven't had a beer (which is my go to drink, because I am proud Czech) in a very long time, like almost 2 months or even more. Along all this realisation, I knew I want to be putting only the best foods and nutrients in my body and that meant, I no longer want to drink hard alcohol or any alcohol. It is a drug, no matter what and I don't do drugs, my dear internet friends. I do not do drugs. (the only drugs I do is chocolate, deep fried cheese and cronuts).

Let me tell you that I didn't have any needs to go and get wasted and I don't even want to. Did you know that it takes 3 weeks after getting drunk for your body to recover to its original state? Huh, WHAT? I am not making this up, it's a pure science.
Your body has to work through psychological, physiological processes and by consuming alcohol it takes much longer time than normal would. So drowning down in a bottle of wine just because someone rejected you or you had a shitty day at work is not ideal, trust me. You better let your mind flow in its own way.
Alcohol also has a huge impact on quality of your sleep and when it comes to sleep I get very serious. I need my sleep so so much. I wake up 5 times a week at 5am for a swim training, so the quality and length of sleep for me and the ability to work through every day, is crucial.
So all in all, as an athlete who loves to do, what she does, I don't really need alcohol to be part of my life and diet.

So now if I want to have beer, I go for non alcoholic and I am fine. And if you want to feel that "buzz", which you get after few drinks, don't worry you can get buzzed very easily from the people around you and the next morning you won't be waking up with a hangover. Also, you can thank me later. Anything can change in a week, month or a year, but I find myself absolutely fine without consuming any alcohol.

But the most beautiful thing is that YOU are charge of your life and I am in charge of MY LIFE. You can do whatever you want and I can do whatever I want.

Things I learned as an INTERN

One thing I actually do admire about my studies in Denmark is the mandatory internship. There are no limits where you go, so because I wanted to save some money and because I wanted to ski a lot this winter, I've chosen to go back to my beloved Prague.
This is what I learned from working as the adults do. And gosh, working full time is hard let me tell you that. Back pain, headaches and sore eyes from staring into the computer all day long...some things you learn the hard way.

1. you don't have as much free time as you want to
2. don't be afraid to talk to your boss - communication is the key (good communication is the key for life)
3. you might get to meet some super cool people, who you end up being more than just colleagues
4. say no - because there is nothing worst than not being able to finish the tasks you said yes to
5. ask for help - you are just an intern and you are still learning (I suck so much at working in Excel)
6. you gotta remind yourself to get your (very little) salary
7. you are part of the team, so leave your inner introvert somewhere else
8. push yourself out of the comfort zone and throw those thoughts about giving up away
9. you will fail (more than once), but that's okay. don't stress about it too much
10. don't take things too personally and let them just pass you instead of hurting you
11. shortcut "command + F" - omg life changer for me
12. last and the most important one - it always be the way you will make it

And what about you? What's the most valuable thing you took from your internship or first real-deal job?

7. jsi součást týmu, takže svýho vnitřního introverta pošli občas do háje
10. zkratka "command + F" - omg zkratka všech zkratek
11. poslední a pro mě osobně nejdůležitější - jaký si to uděláš takový to máš!

Winter is coming

And I have proof. It's been it has been really cold here in Denmark and it started snowing. OMG!!! It's just middle of November, you might say, but I love it. I cannot wait for the ski season to start and since I will be doing my internship in Prague, I'll be able to get on skis more often than last winter. Yay! Oh and let's not forget about biathlon season starting in TV! I'm waaay too excited.

I have some pictures to share with you from yesterday's morning run. Don't you just love crispy, frosty and sunny winter mornings?! Well, I do. I started thinking about giving myself some challenge for the spring. Maybe running a half marathon or maybe just 10k for the beginning. I need something what will keep in training, because I have been lacking on that lately a lot. I am going to Prague on Monday, so I will be back in pool with my home team. Let's see if I will get my shape back (before Christmas ruin it all again :D ).

Happy Saturdays to you all! <3

and one amazing sunset <3

danish news

Tenhle "zápis do deníčku"  bude asi jedno velký "pátý přes devátý".
Spíš počítám měsíce/dny do konce školy a začátku prázdnin. A tak to má bejt! :D

Alright. It's time. It's time to write something on blog. It has been far too long and I miss it. Why no blogposts lately? There was not much to talk about and I'm not that person who rambles with no purpose. But this blogpost will probably be one big chaos of thoughts, so sorry in advance.
Last year around this time I was doing my final exam. And for the past year so much has changed, which I try to document it here on the blog. I don't even count anymore how long I've been living in Denmark. What I count are the weeks till summer holidays! And that's how it should be.
We had a quite long period of sunny weather in Denmark and we even managed to get tanned with Simona. Woohoo! We are all hoping for more sunny days, because we need vitamin D.
Another news is that I'm heading to Oslo and even further in Norway. Why? First of all I love Norway and second of all my mum is running a trail half marathon in Lillehammer, so she thought that I could come join (not in the running part, haha) her since I'm so close to Norway. So little bit of travelling coming up at the beginning of June. I cannot wait to be back in Norway!
And because I mentioned my mum, I also have to share this exciting news with you too. My mum did an interview for the biggest Czech website and if you would like to read than here is the link. Unfortunately it is in Czech, but if you click on gallery you will see me, so that means I'm kinda famous ain't I? :D In all honesty, I am so proud of my mum!
What else has happened? Hm, I had a competition and brought couple medals and personal bests with me home, which is always nice. And speaking of swimming, I have another competition next weekend, so wish me luck! One horrifying thing I've noticed is that I am usually the oldest competitor there. Am I old?!
School related news? Well, we have finished the last project just today and we have few more classes next week and then only final exam. O-oh.

I'll wrapped it up here and you will here from me hopefully soon!

Cheers!

what i miss

Let me tell you something. I love living abroad and it has been my dream since I was 14, but it also has its own cons. I don't want to be pessimists (because I'm always optimist), but this is real life. So here is my little list of "what I miss in Denmark".

1. Czech language
Oh boy, you have no idea how playfull and colourful language it is and maybe that's the reason why I found myself hanging around Slovaks so often, because we understand each other (literally). Also Czech is super hard to learn. Does you language has "ř". No? Well, that's because we are the only ones.

2. food
Especially now when it's Easter or actually any kind of holidays, what makes you miss the foods you just cannot have anywhere else like deep fried cheese (let's take a moment to celebrate this holy food) or any kind of pastry and let me tell you that we have preeetty big selection of it.

3. friends and family
What would it be if I wouldn't write this down, right?! And again...holidays. It is the time when you spend it with your love ones and no one else. Now being 1 000 km away from home, it makes me miss my super adorable and amazing nieces, who are growing like a weed.

4. certain stores
Different country means different selection of certain things. For example some grocery related things or for us girls some certain clothes brands (for instance Denmark does not have: Zara, Bershka, C&A, Pull&Bear etc.)

5. KFC
That's what came up to my roommate's mind like a first thing, when I asked her. :D Yep, Denmark runs on McDonald's and Burger King. I am not saying that I eat it, but some people might be surprised by this fact.

And that's it. I'm sure that there is probably more, so feel free to comment down below and share what do you miss the most.

Hope you are all enjoying Easter holidays and chocolate eggs!

Xx

:D Jo a taky máme “ř” a to ani ty Slováci nejsou schopný vyslovit, heč. :D

Prostě toho máme fakt hodně a Dánové jsou oproti nám fakt žabaři (další důkaz užasného jazyka - češtiny).

3. přátelé a rodina

4. obchody a výběr
Jiná země znamená i jiný výběr u různých věcí.

photo diary #1

I've never done this kind of post before, but everything has to happen "for the first time" at some point of our lives, so here is mine first photo diary. I've managed to collect many pictures in the past week and there is so many stories, which happened and I wish everyone could be there with me, so we could experience it all together (and I wouldn't have to write about it).

We begin with Sunday/Monday, when I got back home from Switzerland. My first skimarathon went really well and nothing hurt me during those 42 km. I set my mind to "enjoy the race, atmosphere and nature around yourself" and 2hours and 55 minutes later I was in the finish line. No doubt about doing the Engadin Skimarathon next year again!

________

Another picture I have for you is this beautiful view from Adela's home in my favourite Prague's neighbourhood - Vinohrady. Three girls (Anna, Adela and me) stuffed their bellies with delicious food and did, what they can do the best - talked. With couple more hours left in Prague I started to stress about how am I going to transport my bike to Denmark?! Also on Monday I picked up my new dioptric glasses, which I'm fairly in love with. You will see soon on this blog's facebook page, which you better be liking.

No, co vám budu povídat..byl to porod :D.

is it a man or is it a plane? / je to muž nebo je to letadlo? #reflection

Now let's talk about bikes. After I had mine second-hand city bike punctured 3 times in just 5 days I said "no, I won't cycle on this piece of s#1t anymore". So that meant bringing my bike from Prague to Denmark in a plane with me. When we got to the airport with my dad I had no idea that it will be such a big problem. We were walking there and back in the airport hall for one hour. But once the workers on the airport realised that yes I am taking the bike with me than they finally started to be helpful. Me and the bike made it in one pice with one transfer in Frankfurt to Aalborg, where we were reunited again. #lovestory

#lovestory
______

Ehm, excuse me, but am I really in Denmark? Sun, blue sky and warm air...how did that happen? One thing I can tell you for sure is that we all love it and really appreciate it, because we don't get much sun here in Denmark.

______

And when the sun is out, we are out too! Drinking beer by the fjord and catching up with my favourite people! Yes yes yes!

Takže pivo u fjordu a velký srandy s mejma československejma kamarádama. (holt bratia drží při sobě)
______

And together with sun we found ourselves being out exploring the city. This is inside the Musikkens hus (Music house in translation) and trust me that this building is somehow very surreal.

______

Well, when it's so nice than let's go to the beach! Hah, we had a blue sky the whole time we drove to Blokhus, but once we stepped on the beach it was super foggy, but it still has some magic in it too. Check Sara's (or mine)Instagram to see more very beautiful pictures.
Also (!) you can look forward to a little cheeky vlog from this day.

Stejně i tohle má něco do sebe.
______

And the last picture of this (already way too long) blogpost is this sunset over the city picture. Sometimes I wish I had better camera than just my iPhone, but you have to work with what you have. The light was incredible. I can tell you that.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for reading this to the end, if managed to do that. You are a hell of a reader! :) Shoudl I do these more often? Let me know in the comments! :)
DĚKUJU MOC za přečtení článku až sem, jestli jste to teda fakt zvládli. Tomu řikám věrnej čtenář! :)
Měla bych tyhle články psát častěji? Dejte mi vědět v komentářích! :)

up in the air

Mimochodem největší výhoda ranního letu? No přeci to vycházející slunce! <3

The first time I flew with airplane was back in 2012, when I was 16. Together with Maruška and Terka (aka the best friends from the pool) we flew to London for couple days in between Olympics and Paralympics. I remember how scared I was. I had to hold Maruška's hand with that I'll keep holding her hand until we land. This very sweaty hand connection ended 15 minutes after take-off, because..well it was just too sweaty and I realized that there is nothing to be afraid of. I started to enjoy the fly above the clouds. Ever since than I'm excited to fly, because it's just amazing feeling to be above clouds. I always take 10000 pictures, which are so hard to delete even they all look-alike and because they are all beautiful and Instagram worthy.
These pictures were taken on the plane on the way back to Denmark. It was a bit of a challenge from Anna, who flew with me to Frankfurt. Why challenge? Well, the evening/night before was our high school's prom, which we could not miss out. So our non-stop experience looked like this: from the prom to after party and than just grabbing our suitcases and at 4:30 off to the airport. Thanks to Anna's mum and grandmother, because without them I wouldn't probably make it to the airport. :D

BTW - the perks of flying in the morning? The absolutely stunning rising sun <3

last few days

Tak je to tady. Za pár dnů nasednu do letadla a pak ještě do jednoho a budu doma. V Praze. Zpátky. Po třech a něco měsících. Nevěřim. Tak to by stačilo, Míšo. Zpátky do normálu. Já se prostě hrozně těšim až všechny uvidim a taky až si dám konečně smažák!!! (Já a jídlo, sorry...not sorry)
V Dánsku mě ještě čekejí jedny plavecké závody, předvánoční spešl trénink s oddílem a jedna oslava narozenin. Ve škole už máme od čtvrtka prázdniny, protože jsme odevzdaly a odprezentovaly projekt, takže pohoda jahoda.
Kdo se na mě těší? :D

So this is it. In just few days I will hop on a plane and then one more plane and I'll be home. Home sweet home. In Prague. Back. After three and something months. Cannot believe it. Enough, Misa. Back to normal. I am just soooo excited. I cannot wait to see all of my friends and family and also when I'll (finally) have deep fried cheese!!! (I'm all about the food, sorry...not sorry)
One swimming competitions in Frederikshavn, one special Christmas training with the club and one birthday party is ahead of me in Denmark. We're also done in school after handing out and presenting our project, so easy peasy...holidays here I come.
Who's excited to see me?  :D

3 months

No pro začátek by to stačilo a více zase příště. Jo a víte co?! Už jenom měsíc a jsem zpátky v milované Praze! :)

Three months in Denmark and I'm starting to like it here even though six out of seven days is raining and sometimes the wind is so strong that I have to pedal on my bike even though it's downhill. Don't get me wrong that I didn't like it here even before, but I am starting to feel better about this place. Maybe it's because I've settled down a bit or something. I'm curious when will the so called "culture shock" comes, but I hope that never.
I would like to do some comparison blogpost CZE vs DEN, but I think I need to take a bit more time to make sure I'm not saying something completely different than it really is, but few think are already now sure:

  • people are nicer to each other (for instance in the municipal office, which you appreciate a lot)
  • no problem to speak with anyone in English
  • Danes are very big athletes (handball, football, badminton, swimming...you name it)
  • Denmark and Sweden don't like (or more like hate) each other
  • Danish language is very .... interesting and hard to learn (but I'm still enjoying it)
  • even Danes are complaining about the cold weather and wind
  • we call our teachers with a first name and it's a friendlier atmosphere in general in school
Well, this is enough for now and more till the next time. And you know what?! It's less than a month now till I'm back in Prague!  :)

autumn 2015

Autumn is here. Not just officially according to a calendar, but you can feel it in the air. Colorful leaves, chilly mornings, early sundowns and I will not be  a teenager anymore. I was so scared about the number "20" and I wasn't ready to accept it, but as the time goes I am ready to hop into the new decade of my life. I am ready to be an adult. (did I really just said that?!) I will still act like a little child sometimes (when I see a dinosaur's plush toy) and I will still be my parent's little Míša and I will probably never grow up from some things, but it is here and I can't avoid it either I want to or not.
This is is going to be my first time, when I spend autumn out of my beloved Prague, first time of celebrating my birthday abroad, first time when I spend my birthday with people, who I know just few weeks. But all of this leads to one bigger thought and that is what this new chapter of my life brings...
let's see

I am a foodlover

Hello,

welcome to my blog.

" My name is Michelle and I have a food addiction."
 " Hey, Michelle."

If one day, I will have a problem and if I will go to the supporting group, the beginning will look like this, definitely and obviously.
I really like  food, if anyone asked me how my ideal death looks like it would be eat myself to death. My problem is that I am very picky (and sometimes piggy), choosey (whatever). Basically, I eat only food, what I know, how they taste and that's all, for now.
Yesterday me and my BFF Maruska decided to bake cupcakes. If there is something what you should know, it is that we never baked them. It was our first attempt. And we it was just too complicated. I am absolute rubbish in kitchen, so I was just helping and Maruska did the important parts like solving problems when we mixed up things for topping and things for filling.

Here are some photos!

 cupcake anyone?
